The NHL (National Hockey League) is the world’s top ranked professional hockey league and is comprised of 32 teams (25 in the US and 7 in Canada).

Here are some basics you should know about a Vancouver Canucks hockey game as an employee of Rogers Arena.

Season Overview:

  • The Hockey Season runs from October to mid-April.
  • Preseason games take place in the last two weeks of September.
  • Each plays 82 Regular season games, 41 each at home and on the road.
  • NHL games can take place on any day of the week at varying times, including afternoons, weekdays and holidays.
  • 16 Teams participate in the playoffs which take place from the end of April to mid June.

Game Overview:

  • An NHL hockey game consists of 3x 20-minute periods.
  • Between each period, there is a 20-minute intermission.
  • A typical puck drop takes place around 7:00pm, however this can vary.
  • The typical duration of an NHL game, including the three regulation periods and breaks between them, is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
  • In the event of a tie after the 3 periods of play, the game will extend with a 5-minute sudden death period of Over Time. If after this time there are no goals scored the game extends to a shoot-out.

Service Notes

  • Doors open for premium guests (suites and clubs) 2 hours before puck drop.
  • Doors Open for the remainder and majority of guests 1 hour before puck drop.
  • Food and beverage service cut off for concourse fans is at the 12-minute mark of the 3rd period.
  • Important to note* food and beverage service on the main concourse does not extend or reopen should the game be extended for OT play.

Areas In Use

  • All areas of the arena are in use during a Canucks game, including level 200 Suites and clubs, level 400 clubs, and level 500 suites.

Warriors:

The National Lacrosse League (NLL) is North America’s premier professional lacrosse league. Founded in 1986, the NLL ranks third in average attendance for pro indoor sports worldwide, behind only the NHL and NBA. The League is comprised of 15 franchises across the United States and Canada

Here are some basics you should know about a Vancouver Warriors game as an employee of Rogers Arena.

Season Overview:

  • The Lacrosse Season runs from December to April
  • Each team plays 18 games during the regular season, 9 each at home and away.
  • NLL games are typically played on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays
  • 8 Teams will participate in Playoff which run May – June.

Game Overview:

  • An NLL game consists of 4x 15-minute quarters.
  • Between each quarter there is a 2-minute break.
  • At half time there is a 15-minute intermission.
  • Warriors home games start with a face off at 7pm.
  • The typical duration of a Warriors Game is 2.5 hours.
  •  It’s important to note that game durations can vary based on factors such as the number of stoppages, penalties, and other game-related events such as OT.

    • Notable Speakers (Oprah, Michelle Obama)
    • Award Shows (The Junos)
    • Alternate Sporting Events (WWE, Laver Cup, DOTA, Olympics)
  • For concerts, there is usually a minimum of 1 opening act and a 20-30 minute break before the main performance.
  • Service cut off is determined by the Duty Manager and can depend on a variety of factors such as:
    • Number of acts
    • Number of breaks
    • Setlist
    • Fan Behaviour
  • Unlike Hockey and Lacrosse, how much of the arena is used will depend on the event and its expected attendance and popularity.
    • Smaller scale events may only use L100 and L200 to seat fans, while larger and more popular concerts would see all areas of the arena in use including L500 suites.
